So now we know … Robbie Knievel says his dad, Evel Knievel, tried to talk him out of jumping over large stationary objects on a motorcycle … “I remember when my dad would be in the back of some ambulance, and he’d say to my brother and me, ‘Promise me you won’t do this when you grow up,’ ” Robbie told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch last week … “Obviously, I failed to keep my promise.” … The elder Knievel, of course, tried and failed - on national television - to jump the Snake River Canyon at Twin Falls in 1974 … Robbie took preliminary steps to make the same attempt in 1996, but nothing came of the idea … “Once I started, then (Evel) became my greatest teacher,” Robbie said of his father/ Steve Crump , Twin Falls Times-News.
