My 2 Cents: Bicycle Rules? C’mon
That crackdown by Portland cops on scofflaw bike
riders caught my eye when I saw it posted at
Orbusmax
and again at
Kootenai MPO
. Why? I’ve been riding my bike back and forth to work the last week or so. And I see myself reflected in the following comment by an MPO staffer: “Okay, I admit it. When I ride my bike, I rarely follow the same rules I would ordinarily follow in my car. I can see where that could become problematic, so I will vow to change my ways.” I admit: I don’t stop at all stop signs. I ride the bike at night without a headlight. I cross over to the wrong side of the street when preparing to turn. I occasionally will ride on sidewalks if I’m in a heavily trafficked area like Appleway. I don’t signal. I don’t know any bicyclist who completely follows the rules of the road. Does that mean we’re bad people?
Question: Do you always follow the proper road rules while biking?
