Worthy edifice under construction

Worthy Enterprises expects workers to finish erecting the structural parts and pieces of its five-story Spokane Valley office building tomorrow, says Jack Marr, director of sales and leasing. To mark the occasion, they will “fly a tree” on the structure, he said. Apparently, its a Norwegian tradition called “topping off,” according to this article :

It occurs when the highest structural element of a high-rise is about to be swung into place. Flagpoles, spires, and ornaments don’t count. But when the last important beam is cabled to the crane, the workers sign it. And after it is welded into position, a small pine tree is often anchored atop.

The company is still anticipating completing the building this fall, although it’s ahead of schedule by about two weeks, Marr says. Read our past coverage here .
