Kootenai County voters may decide in November whether to approve a nearly $147 million jail expansion that includes improvements to the entire Sheriff’s Department complex and 911 center. The Kootenai County Commission just released the recommendation by Olympia consultant KMB Design Groups that calls for a $109.95 million jail expansion with about 495 additional cells to satisfy the need for jail space through 2020, when the county’s population is projected to hit up to 243,668 people.
