As the tallest building in Spokane, the five-sided Bank of America Financial Center has stood out on the downtown skyline for nearly 30 years.

Now, the 20-story building’s street-level appearance is slated for a facelift, part of about $2.5 million in renovations planned by new owner Unico Properties LLC.

Seattle-based Unico plans to replace the building’s plaza along Riverside Avenue, and remodel the structure’s northwest corner to include a café opening onto Wall Street.

Interior renovations will update elevators, common areas and the lobby, said Jim Rock, Unico’s senior vice president of management and leasing.

“We really see the B of A Financial Center as the premier Class A building in the market,” Rock said. “So it’s really trying to provide all of those kind of premier amenities that you would expect to see in a building of that stature.”
