Thin slices, Peeps and $250 billion

Thuy

• Special thanks to the News gods for the Rev. Robert J. Spitzer story on page A1 , managing editor Gary Graham said, because there was a shortage of news and “I don’t think anybody saw the resignation coming.”
• Interesting story on page A1 from Olympia bureau about open-meetings law .
• City editor Addy Hatch took the advice of the Today section feature on sick people deciding whether to come to work . Great illustration (from newswire McClatchy), editors said - although they believe Hatch won’t look quite as green.
• Folks watched the Boeing video at the meeting that goes with this story from Saturday.
• Kudos: Blanchette column on Zags’ NCAA tournament run , GU at home in women’s NIT
• There’s a cool Q&A on page A11 about saving money (just scroll down). The second to last question:

Shouldn’t I just put all my money under the mattress?

In other news

The Spokesman-Review newsroom’s legal fees are at an all-time low, editor Steve Smith said. A man who was suing the S-R for billions of dollars was arrested over the weekend, Smith said. Robert M. Waggy, 37, said an S-R news item about his $250 billion state lawsuit was libelous.

Coming up

• Watch for an upcoming story about poker…
• Today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision that affects the way Washington State conducts voter primaries
• RE: the upcoming chocolate rabbits story in the Today section, Smith asked whether there will soon be a story about Peeps, although other editors wondered what that would entail, exactly. Cooking with Peeps? Peeps casserole?
