Home sales still down year-over-year

Nearly a third fewer single-family homes sold in Spokane County last month than in April 2007, according to data released today by the Spokane Association of Realtors showing continued declines compared to last year.

The Spokane MLS recorded 441 sales in April, compared with 604 during that month a year prior. Sold homes averaged $203,562, a 3 percent increase from March, while the median price also rose about 3 percent, to $183,500.

The number of homes for sale continues to increase, with 3,218 on the market Monday, compared with 2,545 in April 2007.

About 1,300 homes have sold so far this year, compared with 1,935 at this time last year. The year-to-date average price is down about $5,700, while the median is up $500. Total sales volume was $264 million, compared with $401 million through April last year.
