Washington Board Renames Squaw Creek
The Washington State Board on Geographic Names has approved the name John Paulson Creek to replace “Squaw Creek.” The creek runs west from the town of Plaza, in Spokane County, into Pine Creek, in Whitman County. The previous name was widely regarded as derogatory to Native Americans; the new one recognizes pioneer farmer John Paulson/SR.
Question: Do you support the change of geographic places that contain the name “squaw”?
