No softball happy ending
There was no happy ending for Shadle Park in its bid to become Spokane’s first two-time Greater Spokane League softball champion.
Eastlake got the better of a 4-1 victory in the finals despite being outhit 6-to-4. The Wolves bunched three of them in the fifth inning for three runs and pitcher Stephanie Fox kept Highlanders hitters off balance for much of the game with an assortment of breaking pitches - screwballs and drops - and by working the perimeters of the plate.
“They had great pitcher and I’ll give it to you they have a really solid team,” said Fox. “But going into it we figured, why can’t we be champion.”
Herewith is my unedited story about Saturday’s games.
