CDA Teacher: Too Many Books Removed

Coeur d’Alene School District’s one goal is literacy for all students. But as a junior and senior English teacher I have only five novels to choose from besides my textbook! We have removed 78 books from our high schools and 39 from our middle schools. How does this removal of books promote the district’s goal of literacy? Students can only read these “removed” books if they take an “elective” course such as honors. This is not equal education for all students. This is censorship in its highest form/ Paul W. Swartz , Coeur d’Alene. More here .

DFO: If what this teacher says is true in his letter to the editor, something’s really wrong in the Coeur d’Alene School District. At least, I think so. Do you agree?
