Zimo: Idaho Game Is Epitome Of Local Meal

Upland bird seasons are in full swing, and it’s the time of the year when hunters are really eating locally. I mean, how much more local can you get than a chukar, grouse or quail? These free-range birds are running all over the place eating all this natural stuff like cheatgrass seeds and sunflower seeds in the case of quail and chukars, and evergreen needles and berries in the case of forest grouse. Last week, I wrote about trying to stalk grouse with a pistol while hiking. You know, always being prepared to bring home a meal, and grouse hunting does have its rewards.
