When a mentally disturbed man went on a shooting spree earlier this month that left six people dead, The Bellingham Herald’s Web site quickly filled with comments—some thoughtful, some vitriolic— from readers trying to make sense of the carnage. A county prosecutor says Gargaro’s comments went too far and he faces possible jail time. His lawyer is fighting the charge on free-speech grounds. Story here .
