Question: Who is your favorite First Lady from the past? Why?
I like Michelle Obama.
She seems like a real person and very comfortable in her own skin. I think I like her personality more than Obama’s.
First Ladies are interesting to study. They’re all different and there is no wrong way to be a First Lady.
Laura Bush was very reserved and dignified. She really was unseen for eight years She really never ventured into the spotlight. She smiled and held Bushie’s hand.
Hillary Clinton was more of a vice president than Al Gore. She took on Congress over health care. She was smart and outspoken. Republicans hated her.
Barbara Bush. She was very motherly. I always wanted a plate of her chocolate chip cookies and never got them. Darn it.
Nancy Reagan. She was tough as nails. She didn’t take nothing from nobody. She was very protective of her husband. She also helped run the country run Ronnie was at the beginning of his downward spirl in the second term.
Jackie Kennedy. She is held up as this American royalty. She had style, but I always thought she was a little snobby for my taste. She gets mad mprops in my book for forgiving her hubby’s infidelities and being there when John was murdered.
Eleanor Roosevelt. Interesting woman. Some say she was a lesbian. Who knows. She wasn’t attractive, but she was tough and she did a lot of great things.
Edith WIlson is did well when her husband’s stroke. She held things together.
There are probably other great First Ladies. These stick out in my mind.
