Idaho D’s Mull Closed Caucuses

Some Idaho House Democrats are considering reviewing an eight-year-old policy of holding their party caucuses in the open. Majority Republicans have always held closed caucuses, and have consistently resisted calls to open their meetings to the public and the media. But Democrats in both the House and Senate opened their doors in 2001, saying they stood for open government. Rep. Brian Cronin, D-Boise, (pictured) said that puts the Democrats at a disadvantage because the minority party’s strategy can’t be kept quiet/ Dan Popkey , Idaho Statesman. More here . H/T: Unequivocal Notion .

Unequivocal Notion: I mean come on, they are thinking of closing their caucus because they are worried about the GOP knowing their strategy? Really? We’re outnumbered 52-18 in the House and 28-7 in the Senate, there is no strategizing with those numbers. You control one thing; your image — and that image should include a belief in having open caucuses. The Idaho Dems are certainly free to do as they please, but this is one step back.

Question: Are Idaho D’s better off with open caucuses or closed ones?
