Good Riddance To ‘War On Terror’
It was recently reported that President Barack Obama (shown at left this morning with military at Camp Victory in Baghdad, Iraq), as part of his ongoing reforms of our foreign policy and national security strategies, is going to phase out the use of the term “War on Terror.” All I can say is, hallelujah. This is why I voted for Obama. … But I hadn’t dared expect him to perform such a drastic change. Drastic change? Yes. You might think describing a semantic shift as “drastic” is a little over the top. But don’t forget that to control a debate, you must control its language. And what kind of debate is this in the first place? It is a debate over how to explain and sell our broader strategy to combat international terrorism, including the war in Afghanistan, to the American people/
