MamaJD: When Kiddos Start School …
MamaJD: I believe it was you many moons ago (that) JBelle, … advised (me to get) my big girl panties on when the kiddos started school. That I get involved and understand my kids weren’t attending some swank private school on the South Hill but were a part of the public system. So I did. I am now very involved with our teachers, our school and I volunteer many hours each month on behalf of the school district. I did all of this so I could have more insight and input regarding my children. (Full post below)
Question: How involved should a parent be in his/her children’s education? Can you recommend do’s and don’ts for those who want to get involved?
To be fair, it is not playground gossip of other mothers. I have it from good, trusted, official sources that were directly involved.
I believe it was you many moons ago, JBelle, who advised I get my big girl panties on when the kiddos started school. That I get involved and understand my kids weren’t attending some swank private school on the South Hill but were a part of the public system. So I did. I am now very invovled with our teachers, our school and I volunteer many hours each month on behalf of the school district. I did all of this so I could have more insight and input regarding my children. A rapport with teachers & administrators brings benefits, including what some may consider “gossip” but I consider just one person’s opinion. When I find a handful of similar opinions, that has credibility with me especially when it comes from trusted sources, not just Johnny’s mom who may be biased towards guys with tattoos.
But that’s just me. I believe if it can be googled or is in the public record (and therefore google-able) then I don’t consider it an invasion of privacy. Again - it’s just me.
