Brock: When A Father Dies Too Soon

There were five of us in the room that day - him, me, my mother, one of my brothers and a wonderful family friend. My dad gave us a long, meaningful and tired look, then asked for an injection of sedatives. His breathing grew raspy and erratic as the phlegm accumulated, but it continued for hours until, late that afternoon, it finally stopped. That was nearly 30 years ago, in the same hospital where I was born. I was hurrying through college back then, taking 18, 19, 20 credits a quarter, but my dad never saw me graduate. He never read the letters I wrote during a multi-year odyssey around the world. He didn’t attend my wedding. He never met my children/ William Brock , Moscow-Pullman Daily News. More here .
