A counterproposal for Brown
Re: “Brown, Chopp weighing state income tax,” April 3:
Isn’t it amazing? Just when you thought those in government couldn’t be any more out of touch, along comes Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown supporting a “whipping down” of those successful people in the private sector with a state income tax. Ms. Brown, enough with the class warfare and threats of cutting back services to those that depend on them. Here’s my proposal to you:
(1) A state income tax on those living out of state such as Idaho and Oregon and who work in Washington. There should be no argument with this.
(2) A 20 percent reduction in pay and benefits for all government employees, including elected officials. The private sector has been dealing with this for the last year; why should tax-funded entities be immune?
(3) All duplicated positions within government should be eliminated. A trimming down in government agencies will produce greater efficiency.
(4) Lastly, term limits for all elected officials; this means two terms and you’re out. Obviously those who have been in office too long lack an intelligent perspective on what to do and when to do it.
