Large Field Expected For Speedway’s Super Street Apple Cup Event

It is expected that one of the biggest classes at ASA Sanctioned Yakima Speedway during the 2009 Apple Cup presented by Columbia Asphalt is going to be that of the R.J’s Tire Factory Super Streets.

Known as Street Stocks at many tracks in the Northwest, the former Super Stock class at Yakima Speedway has adopted both a new name and rules that conform more with those of the Northwest Outlaw Street Stock (NWOSS) regional touring series.

In addition to the stellar field of local drivers, including defending class champion Brian Pepper, Mike Pepper, Buck Noel, Jr. and Buck Noel, Sr., Ben St. Mary, Mike Butler and Dusty John; a large contingent of NWOSS regulars are expected.

Last year’s NWOSS Champion Gary Homad, popular veterans Dave Lund, Mike Easley and Bob Greiner are expected to participate. Local Tony Huffines spent some time traveling last year with the NWOSS and earned points in the local division. Bill Rutherford who has mostly ran at Ephrata Raceway Park, former Skagit Speedway Outlaw Late Model driver Gary Flammang, and Spokane’s Aaron Nevers are also among those that could make the field.

Returning to the Super Street wars will be Ashley Beaman along with Chet Beaman and Zack Beaman leading a strong contingent of Super Streets from Yakima. JC Wofford will drive the #17 car at Apple Cup.

R.J.’s Tire Factory in Naches, WA returns as class sponsor. Also on the Super Street schedule this year will be the first ever Washington Street Stock Challenge on July 4th.
