ITHO: Nellis’ Hire Method Troubling

The University of Idaho’s alums and boosters got the president they wanted. But at a cost that should give all Idahoans some pause. The university’s foundation will be allowed to kick in more than a tenth of President Duane Nellis’ $335,000-a-year salary - because the State Board of Education was willing to cast aside policy in order to close a deal. There is a making-things-up-on-the-fly feel to this. Considering the State Board’s past lapses in attention to detail, this is more than a little bit troubling.
