Concord, NC— April 29, 2009— Flooding and persistent wet weather over the course of the spring in the Upper Midwest has left the grounds and track at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., overly saturated, forcing the cancellation of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event originally scheduled for Friday, May 1.
The World of Outlaws will race this Saturday, May 2, at famed Knoxville Raceway near Des Moines, Iowa, to help the storied track open its 2009 season. A full night of racing will include a stout field of cars.
Leading the way will be 20-time series champion Steve Kinser, who has nearly 60 wins in his career at Knoxville. The native of Bloomington, Ind., won for the first time in 2009 last weekend at Tri-State Speedway in his home state, taking over the top spot in the championship standings for the first time since 2005. Just behind him is Joey Saldana in his Kasey Kahne Racing machine, with three-time and defending series champion Donny Schatz in third, Jason Meyers fourth and Jason Sides fifth.
The World of Outlaws return to Huset’s Speedway on Friday, July 3, when Minnesota native Craig Dollansky will be in search of his third consecutive World of Outlaws win at the racy high-banked 3/8-mile oval.
