A bad lesson

The Spokesman-Review

What an outrage! A teacher with a 16-year history of multiple disciplinary problems for inappropriate behavior toward children is only just now leaving employment, and without actually being fired, at that. Shame on the school officials, union leaders and anyone else who had a hand in allowing this man to have access to thousands of children over the years despite his abusive behavior.

To compound this disgrace, the text of the letter will state he resigned for personal reasons. Mr. Small is mistaken if he thinks “resigning for personal reasons” is nothing more than verifying employment. That is not neutral language. Neutral language verifies dates of employment and is otherwise silent. The letter simply does not tell the truth.

Furthermore, it makes the school officials and union leaders complicit in a cover-up that enables this person to move elsewhere and continue his pattern of bad behavior without warning to the students he will treat with disrespect and abuse.

Did these people learn nothing from the Catholic Church sex abuse scandal and the violation of trust that occurred by foisting “bad actors” on unsuspecting innocent children?
