Look who’s waving the Bible

The Spokesman-Review

Lotsa Jesus-mentioning from liberals supporting national health care. Why aren’t conservative Christians on board? Didn’t Jesus teach this concerning the poor and sick?

Nope. Christian giving is voluntary, “not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7) Christ spoke to individuals and, through Scripture, to churches. He never commanded nations, “Christian” or otherwise, to force people to pay others’ medical bills.

What happened to fantasyland church/state separation? We can’t allow religious opinion to affect civil or political discourse, right? Now two-faced liberals want to invoke Jesus, however incorrectly.

No way! Keep this “secular”; invoke the Constitution. Read Article I, Section 8, then Amendments IX and X.

How about that! No authority for national health care, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security or any “social service” designed by liberal elitists to suck votes and the ensuing political power. Crafty scoundrels, FDR and LBJ! And now, BO. The liberal creed: subjective pragmatism over objective principle.

“Enlightened progressives,” want to help those you think are needy? Empty your wallet and “redistribute.” Put YOUR money where your mouth is. Conservatives, voluntarily, can support causes of which Jesus would actually approve.
