Thunder Results Adds To U-1 High Points Lead

When Steve David’s U-1 Oh Boy! Oberto and Dave Villwock’s U-16 Ellstrom Elam Plus got together in Heat 1-A of Thunder On The Ohio in Evansville Sunday, the ensuing accident and penalty had a profound effect on the 2009 ABRA National High Points chase.

David was penalized 150 points in addition to be disqualified from the heat, but went on to score 775 points on the weekend.  The U-16 ended up uside down in the Ohio River with its weekend finished, giving team Elam only the 80 points earned in qualifying and 264 earned by Nate Brown in a renamed, renumbered U-17.

The result saw the U-16 drop to third place in points with 5910, with Thunder winner Jeff Bernard’s U-5 Formulaboats.com moving up to second with 6384.  The defending National High Point Champion’s total after Evansville is 6690, giving team Oberto a 316 point lead over the U-5 Formulaboats.com and a 780 point lead over the Elam team as the Unlimited fleet prepares for the the trip to Doha, Qatar for the final event of the 2009 ABRA season November19-21.
