Spike plans for ballpark
The Spokane North Little League’s plan to build a commercial outdoor recreation facility just feet from a quiet residential neighborhood is far from the fair play and team spirit credo they claim to espouse.
I can only pray they uphold the integrity of the organization they represent and withdraw the 12-field, mega-complex proposal for the North Side Landfill Superfund site. I am confident they can find a more suitable location that is a win-win for the whole community. By continuing to believe that the city’s back-door request for proposal is a viable option for all, is self-serving.
Building their “field of dreams” is a nightmare for many who live in the south Indian Trail neighborhood, and a potential health risk to all in Spokane. There is no guarantee field watering will not leach dangerous landfill chemicals into our drinking water or that dangerous methane gas will not be released as a result of traffic and construction on the site.
While the Little League Web site claims their sport “mirrors life,” by imposing bright lights, traffic infestation, noise pollution and environmental risk on our neighborhood, they diminish our quality of living and fail to leave a proper legacy to their kids.
