Valley will emerge strong
We agree with the Aug. 15 letter from Terry Lynch (president, Spokane Valley Business Association) entitled “Spokane Valley a success.” As stated in his letter, please go to www.svba.us or www.spokanevalley.org to read the city’s report card: City Finance 101.
Why go back to the days when Spokane County was spending lots more of our taxes elsewhere in the county than here in the Valley? Also, I believe we were poorly represented before we incorporated.
Spokane Valley is not unique in having to adjust their budgets during this recession. The city of Spokane, Spokane County, Washington state and the public schools are all feeling the effects of lower tax revenues. As the economy recovers, we will emerge as a very well-run city with great servants working for us.
These are exciting days for the people of Spokane Valley. Just as there were naysayers concerning Spokane’s Expo ’74, we have our share of them also. But just as Expo ’74 revitalized Spokane with a downtown riverfront park and a rejuvenated central core, the city of Spokane Valley needs a city center to reinvigorate its central core. We need to move forward, not backward.
