Prescribe exercise

The Spokesman-Review

While there are many changes the country is facing with the new health care reform legislation, one change that absolutely must come is an increase in physical activity and exercise.

It is no secret that the number of people suffering from illnesses caused by sedentary lifestyles is increasing every year, and the greatest preventive measure against this is simply getting more exercise. Type II diabetes, osteoporosis, coronary heart disease and many types of cancer are directly related to sedentary lifestyles and are increasing the cost of health care nationwide.

Too many people complain about these increasing costs yet fail to do their part in trying to prevent it. Exercise truly is medicine; it should be treated as such and prescribed as such.
