Raise fees to save Medicare

The Spokesman-Review

Regarding Spokane’s crisis in health care, as seen in the article, “Ranks of uninsured swell in state” (Nov. 20), I hope that health care reform gets passed. That will help the situation. I’m concerned, however, that they propose cutting Medicare.

I’m on Medicare, which has been wonderful for me. Already the doctors are getting paid very little in relation to their charges. If Medicare is cut more it will be very hard on the doctors and harder than ever to even find one that will even accept Medicare.

I propose that the premiums for Medicare be raised some for those of us that afford to pay a bit more, that is, middle-income people. High-income people could even pay more. This should help keep the deficit down some.
