‘Terrorist’ label overused
In regards to Pamela Stone’s letter on Nov. 21 about the press’s use of the word “terrorist” as it applies to Muslims and jihad:
Why is it an issue that the press prides itself in maintaining a sense of political correctness? The media refer to Muslims, members of religious jihad, and terrorists separately because it is ignorant to call them all one and the same. Not only do news and media organizations do this for protection against lawsuits, but most, promoting anti-discrimination personally and professionally, choose to do this as an act of morality.
Not all Muslims are terrorists, not all members of jihad are terrorists and more importantly not all terrorists are Muslims or are jihad followers.
This letter expresses nothing besides a rightist view on a claim backed by no evidence, fact or reasoning. Is it acceptable that this author is applauded for his or her sense of nationalism but at the same time promotes religious bigotry? The letter completely disregards respect to American Muslims in this case, and could even be interpreted as endorsing public intolerance of them. If one chooses to observe this kind of religious bashing, maybe one should consider tuning into Fox News.
