War isn’t worth it

The Spokesman-Review

How many more? How many more dead American volunteers will it take to hammer home the reality that building nations in the Middle East isn’t our job?

How many dollars must we divert from health care, job creation, infrastructure and feeding the hungry here at home to prop up a dictator half a world away? How many more Fort Hood tragedies will we have to endure when this next group comes home with no help for transitioning back into noncombat daily life? How many more terrorists will we create when wayward ordnance strikes wedding parties, hospitals and civilian women and children? How many more history books need be written about how this very region is where empires go to die?

I hope I am wrong, but I don’t see what there possibly is to gain to counter so much that we stand to lose in Afghanistan.
