Palin may be yet to peak

The Spokesman-Review

Sarah Palin’s visit to her old North Idaho stomping grounds warmed the cockles of many of her conservative supporters in this area.

The Sandpoint native and U. of Idaho graduate may never again attain the greatness thrust upon her when she became just the third Pacific Northwesterner to be chosen a vice presidential candidate on a major party ticket (Oregonians Joseph Lane in 1860 and Charles McNary in 1940 were the others). Still, her star may yet shine bright on the national stage.

Although leaving office in Juneau early may not sit well with many, just remember that she’s only one of over 200 state and territorial governors that quit such a job since 1789. Among that group, 16 became president or vice president of the United States. Some of us last week may have had the opportunity to meet and shake the hand of possible number 17.
