Incarceration works
There is a glaring flaw in Linda Krogh’s reasoning (Letters, Dec. 13). She writes: “The U.S. has the highest per capita incarceration rate in the whole world. At the same time, violent crime in the U.S. is decreasing.”
Well, try cause and effect: The high incarceration rate is cause, and decreasing violent crimes effect. We need to build more prisons and lock up more violent criminals, not less. Ask the families of those deceased police officers shot dead in a Pierce County coffeehouse if they favor building more jails.
