Week’s releases no longer ‘Up in the Air’
It’s taken weeks, but the George Clooney film “Up in the Air” finally opened in Spokane today. So did the new Chipmunk movie, “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeaquel.” Coming on Christmas day: the Nancy Meyers romantic comedy “It’s Complicated,” the Robert Downey Jr. comic mystery “Sherlock Holmes” and the Rob Marshall musical “Nine.”
Look at that lineup. There’s a little something there for everybody. Of course, my viewing preferences would come in this order:
“Sherlock Holmes” : Downey as the indomitable Holmes? What’s not to like?
“Up in the Air” : Clooney’s movie is getting great word of mouth from friends and family.
“Nine”
: As much as I dislike musicals, this one is based on Federico Fellini’s
film “8½” is directed by the same guy who gave us “Chicago.” So …
“It’s Complicated” : I’ve watched the trailer for this Meryl Streep/Alex Baldwin/Steve Martin for weeks now. And even though I’m actually older than most of these people, I’m not that interested in their love lives.
“Alvin and the Chipmunks The Squeaquel” : Chipmunks? Please.
Let me amend that. After “It’s Complicated” I’d watch repeats of “Biggest Loser” and “18 and Counting” before considering watching animated chipmunks.
