Distribute bailout evenly

The Spokesman-Review

The United States is totally paying out about $2 trillion in bailout money. That’s $2,000,000,000,000. Or, put another way, two thousand millions multiplied by a thousand.

The population is 303,824,640. Two trillion just divided to all citizens, means every man, woman, child and baby would receive $6,523. A welfare family with seven kids and a single mom would receive $52,000. And retired seniors would receive $13,000. A young family of three would receive nearly $20,000.

This idea has some advantages. Everyone would probably be happy with their share of the handout; we might be able to shut down welfare payments entirely for a few months. Taxpayers would get back their own money, stipulated that it be used to pay down debt. Homeowners would be helped and the banks would get the money in the end anyway – just not directly from the government. What couple wouldn’t like to throw $26,000 to their mortgage?

The same people who got us into this mess are now getting more of our money. Of course, the disadvantage to the idea is that it would be difficult for Wall-Streeters to maintain the $16 billion bonuses.
