Capitalism failing us
Thank you, Mr. Cox (“Voters wrought massive mistake,” Letters, Feb. 18), for your lucidly stated opinion regarding the current “State of the Union.”
I don’t know anyone who is happy with the unprecedented financial decision-making forced upon the current administration. I also don’t know anyone who “begs the government to provide everything for” them. I’m sure there are some. How interesting it is that the “socialistic” type decisions which were (are) forced upon the administration are the direct result of at least eight years of under- or mismanaged (unfettered) corporate greed in a capitalist, free-market economic system.
The ideal “sink or swim” ideology of capitalism can’t be relied upon in the current global, corporate economy polluted with unlimited greed and unlimited freedom to manipulate financial instruments and values. Personally, I can live with the temporary nationalization of banks in order to restore credibility in the system and reduce the suffering of the American people.
As to your opinion of government being the problem, evidence seems to suggest government might be needed most to govern those few most opposed to being governed to ensure the survival of a free and just society.
