Ormsby among best

The Spokesman-Review

The nomination of Mike Ormsby to be the U.S. attorney for Eastern Washington is no surprise to those who know him. There is no one more skilled in the practice of law. As the managing partner of a large, diverse law firm, he also has the administrative experience for the job. Most important, Mike’s personal skills in promoting compromise and collaboration in difficult situations are unparalleled. I have attempted to model my own efforts as a public servant on the example he has shown me over the years.

It is disappointing that a few who would criticize Ormsby for his work in saving our downtown from the massive exit of retailers that would have followed the failure of River Park Square a decade ago. Those who avoid battles because of the risk of failure or public criticism are generally not the most fit to lead.

My early endorsement of Barack Obama was based on a belief that his presidency would inspire the best and brightest to come forward in service to their country, as they did 50 years ago. The decision of someone with the skills and personal integrity of Mike Ormsby to forgo a successful private career to serve as U.S. attorney is proof of that.
