Welcome to the Eco-Traveler

Andrea Shearer

Welcome to The Eco-Traveler, DownToEarthNW’s travel blog.
A bit about myself… I started traveling abroad over eight years ago. The travel bug grabbed me, and I have spent the last six years living overseas. During that time, I witnessed, experienced and learned new ways to be green. From simple techniques relating to how to do your laundry to volunteering time with an environmental cause, I’ve racked up a store of knowledge I would like to share.
My aims in writing this blog are to provide ideas on how to stay green while travelling, share information on programs related to environmental and animal conservation, suggest ways to offset our carbon footprint, impart stories and photos that remind us why it’s important to live green, and answer questions about travel- green or otherwise.
My focus is on international travel, and so most of my posts will be presented in this context. However, a lot of the information can be used locally, as well. Some tips will apply to domestic travel, certain ideas can be used in your own home, and, as the weather warms up, outdoor pursuits will work their way into the blog.
Any information provided in this blog is meant to be informational only. Use it as you will. Or not. The first step to going green is learning how.
If you have any questions about travel, or would like to share ideas of your own, you can contact me at askandrea@ymail.com .
