Values, work ethic ignored
I feel sorry for the young people in our modern (not much is off limits) world. This group came along after Generation X.
Our state, in an attempt to improve very poor standards in our public schools, created the WASL. Then they found out that wasn’t working (except to frighten parents), so the rules kept changing. As a carryover from Dr. Spock, children were not to be confronted with rules and challenges that might cause stress. Thus, many of you are being cheated out of the joy of hard work, earning privileges and possessions.
Far too many of you will not know about food that doesn’t originate in packages or a fast-food restaurant. You probably won’t know about fun and recreation that can be enjoyed without plastic and electronics.
Studies show that two out of three in your group believe it is acceptable to lie and cheat. That is a bad situation made worse by the fact that a rising number not in your group are not trustworthy! I hope you make good choices.
Many of you and your parents have not learned the difference between wants and needs. Unfortunately that is changing and will continue to do so.
