Texting from the scene
Text messages received from Jasmine Linabary, who is in Washington D.C. for the inauguration
4:52 A.M. - Line for 7th street security entrance stretches to 5th.
6:43 A.M. - Officers have all been giving conflicting information on getting in. Some people who have been out since 10 p.m. are giving up.
7:26 A.M. - Biggest seller right now; hand warmers
8:29 A.M. - Finally made it on the national mall near the smithsonian castle. We’re kind of surprised we haven’t had to go through any security
10:30 A.M. - The crowd anxiously awaits each shot from the monitor, standing on tiptoes to peer over each other even though the audio is off.
11:05 A.M. - The mall erupts with excitement and cheer as the Obamas and Bushes have arrived. Photographs are being snapped left and right of Obama’s image on the screen.
NOON - There are more cameras held up than flags. The crowd chants for Obama.
