Rail plan not going away

The Spokesman-Review

David Tiffany is absolutely right (“Time to revisit light rail,” July 21). In fact, had the STA board not stopped the project cold, it would have been shovel ready – ready for stimulus funding today and providing well-paying jobs.

Many of us have been working the better part of two decades to develop a light rail system that would eventually connect Coeur d’Alene to the Spokane airport and beyond and link points north and south. Primarily federally funded, this project was supported by our former U.S. congressman and our senator, leaders who have understood our vision of a community that is sustainable while attracting productive growth.

Like Jim Ellis in Seattle who, for 40 years, pursued his light rail vision, we are holding strong and our ranks are growing. The Inland Empire Rail Transit Association is committed to educating the community and promoting rail transit options. Visit our Web site at inlandrail.org and learn about the conceptual design of the starter piece and developments to date. We even Twitter!
