Bargain DVDs offers up some good deals
What with the rising popularity of movie downloads , DVDs – especially regular DVDs – may soon go the way of 8-track tapes players and VCRs. But until they do, you can find some pretty good deals out there.
Just the other day I want to the Blockbuster store on Grand Ave. and bought three used DVDs for $20. I typically don’t take advantage of such sales because the films available are the typical Hollywood crap.
Do you really need to own your own copy of “Paul Blart: Mall Cop”?
But I was able to buy “Slumdog Millionaire,” “The Wrestler” and “JCVD.” Of the three, “JCVD” is the only one that I haven’t yet seen. It’s an action film in which the star, Jean-Claude Van Damme plays himself starring in an action movie. Only the conceit is that he, the real Van Damme, has to use his Hollywood smarts to foil a real-life bank heist.
Entertainment Weekly blurbed the film as “Funny, nimble, knowing, gracious and kickass.” Sounds like it has just the right mix of guilty pleasures.
Below: The trailer for “JCVD.”
