Reopen rodent season
My husband and I went for a walk at the Finch Arboretum. Within 10 seconds of stepping out of the car, we were able to count over a dozen ground squirrels. We saw over 100 ground squirrels during our short visit.
The squirrels are ruining the grounds. There are rodent holes everywhere. They are digging under the bushes and trees, eating the roots. If these rodents don’t get under control they’ll completely ruin the Arboretum.
This Arboretum is a little jewel in our community. Some of the trees were planted at the beginning of the 1900s. Some of the native trees are well over 100 years.
There are SO many large rodent holes, it’s just a matter of time before someone walking through the park trips in a hole and breaks a leg. Then the city will feel the pain, in their pocket.
Enough of being politically correct with the animals. Can’t we just be practical? Where else but the Arboretum can we enjoy the vast array of different mature trees, trees that have taken decades to grow?
It’s the trees or the squirrels. And it’s not like we have a shortage of squirrels in the county.
