NIC Trustee Explains Reason For C-17

This project will take many years to unfold, and that is why the C-17 was requested, so as for future elected boards to have latitude in their decisions. Remember, the Boards that will be making those decisions are elected by the residents of Kootenai Co. and thus will be representing their desires. There are no current plans for the property, but as a Board we belived it very appropriate to acquire the land or risk the chance that it be devloped & lost forever. And one last fact is that there will be numerous opportunities for public input concerning the future of this property/ Mic Armon . Full HBO comment below .

It is interesting to see the comments that came out of last nights meeting & even some today that are so far off of reality concerning the Corridor. As a Trustee of NIC I will try & give some facts & try to resolve some of the misstatements. First, before the NIC Foundation will complete the purchase, a full environmental clean up to the specifications of IDEQ must be completed and signed off by IDEQ. This is a Stimson Lumber Co’s. expense. Second, the intenet of the current NIC BoT is to complete a lease-purchase agreement with the Foundation, so when the land is fully paid for, the ownership will be transfered to NIC. Also, the intent of this Board is to hold the land for the future needs of NIC. These needs will evolve over time and will be determined by future ELECTED trustees of NIC. And one last fact is that there will be numerous opportunities for public input concerning the future of this property. The first such event will happen on Aug. 11-13 when the Nat’l Endowment of the Arts will sponsor a workshop & forum. And remember that the NIC Board of Trustee meetings are open meetings and public comment is available.
