Obama steps up for Libby

The Spokesman-Review

President Obama keeps serving up the most remarkable repairs and changes to American life. When I read that the naive souls of Libby, Mont., had lost a final lawsuit in hopes of getting some peace regarding the tragic poisoning of generations of families there, it truly grieved me. Mesothelioma is a horrible disease that slowly takes away your ability to breathe. Children who sat at the table to eat were contaminated by their fathers’ clothing, and the miners’ wives were contaminated just by washing their clothing.

The government and Grace mining company lied about the dangers for years and then refused to pay up.

Within a matter of days, I found the article about what President Obama is doing to validate their claims on the front page. They’ll still have to drift through the justice system, but the only person in the country who could bring back hope just did.

So many things that have embarrassed me as an American have already been tackled. You go, President Obama. I plan to follow for the next eight years.
