Slow down and think

The Spokesman-Review

I didn’t vote for Obama, but I fully expected he’d win, and I do hope he does well. But his stimulus plan will do little more than restore the status quo – the endless cycle of buying, building, borrowing and spending.

The cycle brings happiness and prosperity to many. But it is the very same one that breeds war, pestilence and poverty throughout the world. Change you can believe in? Don’t look like it to me.

Maybe a “slowdown” is good for us all – forces us to take stock of things – where is it all going? Oh, I know what someone is likely to say at this point: a homeowner just a heartbeat away from foreclosure hasn’t time for abstract thought. Well, maybe he had just better find the time, make it or something – for his own sake and all the rest of us.

For heaven’s sake, everyone, don’t jerk money out of one bank to plop it in another. Don’t sell stocks to buy up Treasury bonds. You are only fanning the flames of the fire. Had we all remained calm, kept our heads, things would not be half as bad as they are.
