Don’t condone discrimination
I believe that judgment toward people with disabilities needs to stop. What is the difference between you and me? Not much. What is the difference between you, me and a person with a disability? I’m sure you can think of many things, but are they reasonable?
Sure, they may look different, talk different and maybe act different, but what part of that gives you the right to laugh, stare or make fun of someone who could be your friend in the future?
Have you ever thought about being friends with someone who uses a wheelchair? What would be wrong with going up to a “different” person and getting to know them? He or she could like things you like and you would never know it.
I couldn’t be more passionate about the way people are treated because of my sister. When my sister was born, she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Since she was 3, she has used a wheelchair. She has gone through life with people staring at her.
She says she’s used to it. How can somebody so great be used to being treated differently?
