Ticket amnesty needed
Spokane County and the city of Spokane should join cities and counties across the state and waive collection fees and interest on outstanding municipal and district court tickets and citations if paid during the next two months.
In these hard economic times, people who want to comply with the law may not be able to do so due to collection costs and fees added to original tickets. Unfortunately, people who cannot afford to pay must often go without reregistering their cars or renewing their driver’s licenses. This in turn can detrimentally affect their employment opportunities. Apparently, when this forgiveness was last applied, the counties who participated saw an increase in revenue and closed cases.
