AMC hosts a little touch of Paris

Dan

I’ve already talked about “Angels & Demons,” which opens nationally – including in Spokane/Coeur d’Alene – on Friday. Now comes word from AMC’s River Park Square Theatres that one of its AMC Select offerings is opening that same day. It’s titled “Paris 36.”

Sound good? Well, it is French. In some circles, that would mean it is a must-see. And, of course, I would go and see it – though I’m going to be out of town during its first week of release. And I doubt there will be a second.

Why? Well, here is a description provided by A.O. Scott of the New York Times: “This movie, directed by Christophe Barratier (‘‘Les Choristes”), is perhaps not horrendous enough to bring down a proud national cinema all by itself, but it is so shameless in its pandering, sentimental vision of Frenchness as to constitute something of a national embarrassment.”

I love embarrassments. Too bad I won’t be here to enjoy this one.
