Men play a part, too

The Spokesman-Review

If I weren’t such an intelligent being, I would have to believe that women impregnate themselves and are rampantly choosing to get pregnant and then kicking the father out of their lives.

The May 14 article (“Births to unmarried women on the rise”) was so poorly written and offensive that I fear for the poor souls who have been brainwashed by it.

It takes a man to make a child with a woman. The article implied that women are doing this on their own, with no sperm from a male partner. The article missed the bigger picture. Women and men have relations. Women are the ones who become pregnant and are unable to just walk away, and men often choose to leave.

Yes, sometimes the woman doesn’t tell the man about the child, or maybe she did get pregnant on purpose, but not often.

The article vehemently attacked those unmarried mothers who choose to do right by keeping their child and raising it alone.

Please remember that for every one unmarried mother, there is one unmarried father. That’s the way it goes. Just because he isn’t involved, doesn’t mean he didn’t contribute an equal amount to make the child.
