Bear fans overdoing it

The Spokesman-Review

In response to the article “Outcry” in the Outdoor section on Nov. 1, what has happened to the value of human life as seen by federal government wildlife managers? They have the audacity to rate a bear’s life above that of a human! They make a totally ignorant statement that we outdoorsmen should use only pepper spray to defend our lives and those of our companions, so as not to injure the bears.

They then threaten the public by taking away our use of public lands if we do not “get with the program.” They further demean us by using the term “in the name of self-defense.” How dare someone defend his or her life at the expense of an animal?

I suggest that federal wildlife managers and their Endangered Species Act revisit their core values.
